![]() The drill comes with a high-torque, variable speed motor that develops up to 500 in-lbs of torque, though DeWalt prefers to use Max Watts Out (MWO) numbers in its torque specs. How much torque does a DeWalt 18V drill have? It’s benefiting from a 17% increase in power from the previous model, maxing out at 1825 inch pounds of torque and 3250 RPM. What are the torque settings on a Makita drill?ĭeWalt 20V Max XR 3-Speed Impact Driver Specs and Features One drill is rated at 400 in-lbs max and with 0-400/0-1500 RPM speed settings, and another at 380 in-lbs max torque, with 0-550/0-2000 RPM speed settings. What are the torque settings on a DeWalt drill? Some tools have 2-speed settings or even 3. The higher the number, the faster it’ll turn. When you press the trigger and the drill speeds up, the torque setting will determine how many rotations it makes, once you choose a specific number setting. The torque settings on a drill refer to how fast the tool will spin. What do the torque settings on a drill mean? You also use the drill clutch for driving screws to prevent over driving or stripping the screw heads for very small screws you want low torque or a very low number on the clutch. What should your clutch be set at for drilling holes? Quote from Youtube video: There's no magic formula to choose between cordless drill torque and speed but there are some general conclusions that we can make the torque rating is a standardized. Setting 3 is the highest speed and is meant for drilling or driving fasteners. Setting 2 is a medium speed/torque and can be used for drilling or driving. Setting 1 is low speed/high torque and is best for driving screws. What are the torque settings on a cordless drill? I used the gun again in 2012 when finishing the bonus room at my old house prior to sale, and the old girl still worked like a charm. We'd lock the trigger to keep the motors running and keep on zipping screws in as fast as we could. That was back when B&D still made good tools. That clutch slips based on the depth of the screw head, which is set by spinning a "nozzle" in and out around the driver bit, so that the head gets recessed just the right amount. Interestingly, the one clutch that has always worked perfect for me is my 1980s-vintage Black&Decker Pro Drywall gun. Small variations in wood hardness, friction, etc, would make almost every screw behave different. I know when I used to use a drill to drive screws, I found that a single setting would never suffice for very long. It would be interesting to see how repeatable a drill's slip clutch was, if one had a means to test that. I know torque wrenches and torque limiters have very precise mechanical adjustments, but the slip clutches I have looked at in drills have all been very basic. The ones I have taken apart have no means of adjustment for calibration (i.e., if you wanted to tune them into a spec). They are very simple slip clutches, mainly meant to "release". I don't think the clutches on drills are real precise or meant to be precise enough to "apply" torque. ![]()
